Both victims were transported to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition, according to initial reports. Less than an hour later, at approximately 6:50pm, gunfire erupted again in the Bronx, this time at 1547 Macombs Road. A 30-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. He was also taken to St. Barnabas Hospital and was listed in stable condition, amNewYork reported. Police sources indicated that a male suspect, described as having a medium build, was seen fleeing the scene wearing a red sweatshirt and grey sweatpants. It remains unclear if this incident is related to the earlier shooting on the same road.
Fatal Shooting Rocks Queens
As night deepened, the violence escalated and shifted to Queens, an eastern borough. At around 11:30pm, emergency services were called to a distressing scene on 104th Street and 37th Drive in North Corona. There, they discovered a 26-year-old man with a fatal gunshot wound to the torso. Despite rapid medical attention, the victim was pronounced dead at Elmhurst Hospital, marking the night's sole fatality.
Investigators quickly secured the area, collecting forensic evidence and speaking with potential witnesses. Information regarding the suspect or motive in this deadly incident was not immediately released by authorities, leaving local residents shaken and fearful.
Latest Victim in South Jamaica
In the early hours of Monday, September 14, at approximately 12:40am, another shooting was reported in South Jamaica, Queens. A 30-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound to the hip at the intersection of 150th Street and Liberty Avenue. He was transported to Jamaica Hospital and, thankfully, was reported to be in stable condition.
The widespread nature of these shootings across the city's diverse boroughs has renewed concerns about gun violence in New York, a persistent issue that authorities are grappling with. As of late Monday, no arrests had been made in connection with any of the "Bloody Sunday" incidents, with police continuing their intensive investigations.
